Learning

Learning

We all learn in different ways, be it through reading, using computers, or socialising.

Imagine a 7 year old child learning about their environment; in one place they can access books, see archives, and discover objects illustrating our local history, learning next to a university student or an adult learner.

Our facilities will encourage learning, providing over 800 study spaces, from the informal on the lower ground floor by the cafe, to the silent study areas for serious researchers on the top floor of the building and within the history centre.

Technology will be available throughout the building, with state-of-the-art digital media and e-enabled study spaces for those users who wish to bring their own technology with them. A wide range of electronic publications, databases and journals will also be available for users to consult.

The Centre ensures that education really is a life long activity, available to all – from acquiring basic information to encouraging a love of learning, scholarship and creativity.
